Trip Report – Western Sahara’s Rare Mammals Tour – Royle Safaris – February 2026
This is the second of the two trip reports from Western Sahara trips run by Royle Safaris trips in the first couple of months of 2026. This is our February 2026 departure, run as a small group tour and lead by Ewan Davies.
The itinerary is the same as our standard Western Sahara’s Rare Mammals Tour, with 5 nights spent in the desert, combining time at our desert campsite and a homestay in the small town of Assouard.
This trip was successful with nice views of all targeted cats and canids (Sand Cat, African Wild Cat, Fennec Fox, Ruppel’s Fox and African Golden Wolf) as well as great rodent sightings of both jerboa species (African Hammada and Lesser Egyptian) and four different gerbils (Lesser Egyptian, Pygmy, Tarabul’s and Fat-tailed) as well as Desert hedgehog.
We will be coming back to Western Sahara for repeats of this trip twice in November 2026 and again in January 2027. This itinerary is still a very popular one with our clients and mammalwatchers in general and our next available tours will be in late 2027 and again in early 2028.
