Seeking advice on Mustelids in the UK

Hi folks,

I’m spending a couple of weeks in Scotland (mainly) and UK in early October, and seeking tips on where to see smaller mustelids. I’m sorted for otters, pine marten and badgers but would especially grateful for any recent intell on good sites for any Mustela sp- stoat, least weasel and polecat. Many thanks in advance

Cheers,

Luke

Hi Luke, I saw both weasel and stoat on Skye on a 2 day trip there last July. Both were brief sightings of the animals crossing the road, so more of a tick than a satisfactory mammalwatching experience. However, I suspect that’s the norm for these species. I don’t know if I just got lucky or if this hit rate is not unusual. I spoke to one local who said stoats were fairly common on the island. Hope that helps.
