South Africa and the Big Cat Year and five Wild Cat species!

As part of The Big Cat Year we made a visit to South Africa, organized together with Nature Travel Africa. It was a three  week trip during which we covered seven provinces and several different habitats. Highlights were the sightings of the Caracal, Lion, African Wild Cat, Leopard and Serval but also observations of Aardvark, Aardwolf, African Wild Dog, Meerkat, White-tailed Mongoose and Side-striped Jackals. In total we managed to observe over 65 mammal species, close to 420 birds and over 15 reptiles. On behalf of the Big Cat Year we have made a donation towards Panthera South Africa. Extremely thankful for this great country, its nice people and overwhelming nature and wildlife!

Great job Marc, glad you got the caracal and serval! That was tough about Kruger National Park and missing out on cheetah. Are you at all planning to get it somewhere else? Keep up the great journey!
