Trip Report – Pygmy Hippo Expedition – Royle Safaris – April 2025
In April 2025 Royle Safaris took one client on a private tour into the wonderful rainforest ecosystem of Tai National Park in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) for another Pygmy Hippo Expedition. This was the third annual trip we have run which has been succesful in sightings of Pygmy Hippos and this time we got pictures! Which is a great success rate for this incredible and elusive African mammal.
We didn’t send a tour leader for this private tour so we don’t have a full trip report as we sometimes do, however we have included the animals which were photographed on this trip in the following report. As well as these pygmy hippo sightings there were 15 species of mammals photographed including all of the main West African primates (Diana monkey, sooty mangabey, West African red colobus, king colobus, Campbell’s monkey and Bosman’s potto) as well as great sightings of other rarely seen species such as water chevrotain, Maxwell’s duiker, long-footed swamp rat and many others. Many of these species are now very reliably seen on our trips here and we hope to continue seeing them on future trips.
We have places available on our 2026 Pygmy Hippo Expedition and anyone interested in this please contact us on info@royle-safaris.co.uk and we will get back to you and answer any questions you may have.
