The Weekly Recap

Hello everyone, welcome to the weekly recap.

The website crashed this week and deleted quite a few posts – including, very rudely, the previous recap. Any comments left between last Sunday and Friday may have been deleted, so feel free to check yours and comment again. And if any of your posts were deleted, my dad should have been in touch about getting them back up!

Now that everything is working again, the first trip report (that survived) this week was Daniel Boyland’s from New Guinea. It covers several trips made over the past couple of years so is a real mega one with lots of cool species and information. Some overall highlights are the adorable Matschie’s, Ifola and Ursine Tree-kangaroos as well as Calaby’s Pademelon and Pygmy Ringtail.

Next is my dad’s report from a weekend in Tangjiahe NR, Sichuan where he saw the Masked Palm Civet, Northern Hog Badger and (probably) a Confucian White-bellied Rat.

And the last trip report was from Seva Rudyi’s recent trip to Serbia with his fiancée. It features 11 mammal species, including Bechstein’s Bat, European Ground Squirrel and Northern White-Breasted Hedgehog, as well some cool non-mammal finds of everything from snakes to toads.

John Flothmann, heading to Morocco, is looking for some mammal/bird tour guide recommendations. And Coke Smith, who will be going to Paraguay in July, is wondering whether a detour to Argentina for Patagonia Mara would be worth it. If so, please let him know any good locations near Buenos Aires, and any other mammals he could find there!

Finally, Charles Foley has shared yet another fascinating bioluminescent find: the East African Springhare glows bright pink/red under UV light! The one in the picture looks quite bashful. Maybe the colour just resembles blushing… Or perhaps it had been caught red-furred birdwatching.
