Mammal Conservation Internship
Hello mammalwatchers!
My name is Jonatan and I’m an MSc student in Biology (Mammal Ecology & Conservation) at Wageningen University & Research from the Netherlands. In my thesis I used spatial and statistical modeling (R, occupancy models, Circuitscape) to map Andean bear habitat and connectivity in Ecuador.
As part of my degree, I have the opportunity to do an internship outside of a university setting, and I’m posting here to see whether there’s an on-location fit with the work any of you do.
What I can offer:
– GIS analysis: habitat suitability mapping, connectivity/corridor modeling, spatial data processing (ArcGIS, MaxEnt, Circuitscape)
– R-based statistical analysis: camera trap and occupancy modeling, population data analysis, visualization
– Field photography: I have my own camera gear and can produce images for reports, your website, social media or other outreach material
I’d bring my own laptop, software, and camera gear, so there’s no setup needed on your end. I’m flexible on timing and would rather work with whatever data or monitoring needs you already have than ask you to build a project around me.
If you have camera trap footage, habitat layers, or monitoring data sitting unanalyzed, I’d be glad to look at it and tell you honestly what’s feasible!
Feel free to reply here or reach me directly at jonatan.denhaan@wur.nl, happy to share more details.
Happy mammalwatching!
Jonatan
