South-Western Uganda July 7 – 20, 2026: Iconic Mammals and Birds in the Pearl of Africa

This trip lasted 2 weeks and we covered 5 different reserves in the Southwestern part of the country: Mburo National Park (only a brief stop), Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Kibale Forest Reserve, Murchison Falls National Park, and Mabamba Swamp. We also took some time to visit Entebbe’s Botanical Gardens, which we can highly recommend if you’re also interested in birds and plantlife.

We observed a total of 45 mammal species and 349 bird species during our time there, many of which were not possible without the support of local guides we hired. We did the entire trip through self-driving by renting a 4WD with Roadtrip Africa, and hired local guides where we felt it was useful. With some planning, this type of holiday is perfectly possible there.
