Southern Arizona, October 8th-10th, 2025

This is my trip report from my brief stay in Southern Arizona from October 8th through October 10th of 2025. The trip was not fully wildlife-related, but I still managed to pick up a handful of bird lifers and a few new mammal species. All in all, I observed 5 species of mammals, with 4 of them being lifers for me.

Terrific report and good luck with the hummingbird watching. We saw desert cottontails and jackrabbits around Phoenix, as well as ground squirrels on the trail to Bullfrog Pond. I would love to see the bats one day. It was fascinating to see the woodpeckers peck away at the saguaro. The highlight for us was the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, they are doing incredible work there.

Thank you! I actually just got home yesterday afternoon from AZ. I didn’t see many new mammals, but I did do some very solid photography on species I’ve seen already. A whole lot of coues deer! I also pickup up a lot of bird lifers and had some great experiences (despite the extreme heat). I’ll write up a report soon!
