Trip Report – Sumatra, Bali, Komodo & Java Wildlife Exploration – Royle Safaris – August 2023

In the summer of 2023 Royle Safaris ran a private tour to several Indonesian islands as a private tour for Cheryl Antonucci and Sarah Womack. Martin Royle was due to lead the trip but 3 days before departure he injured his arm and was unable to travel. However the local team provided by Royle Safaris made sure things ran well and despite a hiccup or two with an unscrupulous boat operator in Flores (whom Royle Safaris have blacklisted) the trip was overall successful in seeing a range of wildlife including great sightings of 8 species of primates and a total of 22 mammal species. Including Javan Surili, Javan Treeshrew and Sumatran Orangutans.

Other (non-mammalian) highlights included awesome Komodo Dragons, pure white Bali Starlings and amazing Great Argus Pheasants.

Royle Safaris runs several trips to Indonesia annually and whilst most of these are tailored private tours we do have some group tours for anyone interested please get in touch (info@royle-safaris.co.uk) for more info.
