The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

Starting off this week is a trip from Sumatra by Nick Buys from Nature Travel Africa. Despite the time spent (wasted) birding they got a bunch of great mammal species like Sumatran Orangutan, Southern Black Giant Squirrel, Small-toothed Palm Civet and Malaysian Slow Loris.

Next up was Yonathan Perez’s short trip to Finland: Brown Bear, Grey Wolf and Saimaa Seal are some highlights.

Pawan Ranta’s epic trip report from Pune to Chicham tells the tale of a Snow Leopard chase. It’s a great report full of stunning photos and a beautiful Snow Leopard!

This report from India and Bhutan by Tina Greenawalt features 19 mammals such as One-horned Rhino, Bengal Tiger, Yellow-throated Marten, and gorgeous pictures, especially of – dare I say – birds.

Travyn Rhall’s trip to Sri Lanka got him 40 cool mammals including Sri Lanka Red Slender Loris, Fishing Cat, Leopard and Indian Grey Mongoose.

My dad’s trip report from Madagascar features species like Giant Jumping Rat, Red-ruffed Lemur and 6 of the 7 endemic carnivores! There are some great photos in this one too and even a picture of the swimming pool my dad taunted me with, as the only hotel pools he takes us to usually contain deadly creatures of some sort.

Right before this he went looking for the Lac Aloatra Bamboo Lemurs north of Antananarivo, and successfully saw several of these rather chubby creatures…

If you’re feeling inspired by that Sumatra report then it’s your lucky day: Dazhuan Pan is looking for a couple of people to join a Way Kambas mammal trip in November/December of this year.

And two people are also wanted next June to fill this African Golden Cat adventure in Uganda with the exciting option for a Mountain Gorilla extension, which is almost as good as the Easy Jet add-ons…

A mysterious Flying Squirrel is looking for an identity: spotted in Namdapha, Pradesh by Ian Green last November, it seems it may be part of a genus not seen since 1981…

Coke Smith has some questions about safaris at Torres del Paine, Argentina – how successful for Pumas are they, and is it worth taking the ferry to the King Penguin colony for Commerson’s Dolphins?

Leo Boon is wondering if anyone has experience using dashcams to film mammals crossing roads at night, as he’s considering giving it a try.

And finally, the famous Thermal Master DV2 is now only $404 (10% off) when buying directly from the Thermal Master store with the code MAMMALCAM10. So if you’ve been thinking of buying them all up to end mammalwatching once and for all, here’s your chance… You should all be thankful I’m not rich.
