Advertising: The Azores with Royle Safaris, July 2027

As mentioned in our annual newsletter at the start of the year Royle Safaris will be launching our first dedicated whale watching tour to the Azores in 2027. We have now finalised the plan for this and attached here our brochure. The trip will centre around Pico and Sao Miguel Islands and will have expert guidance from a Royle Safaris tour leader, marine mammal experts (or biologists) as well as vastly experienced whale watching boat skippers to help us in our quest to see up to and maybe over 10 different species of marine mammals.

Commonly (near guaranteed) seen species include Sperm whales, short-finned pilot whales, common bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, Risso’s dolphins and Atlantic spotted dolphins. We then have very good chances for some very rare beaked whale species including northern bottlenose whales and Sowerby’s beaked whales as well as many more of the 28 species which have been recorded from these islands.

We will be chartering our own boat for 10 of the 12 whale watching trips (all of the trips conducted from Pico) and thus we will have extra flexibility to target the rarer species, armed with great spotters on the boat, long distance spotters on shore and hydrophones we will be very well equipped to find many of our targeted species.

If you are interested in joining this trip or have any questions please get in touch.
