The Weekly Recap
Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!
This week kicked off with Nick Buys from Nature Travel Africa’s report from China (Sichuan and the Tibetan Plateau). Some highlights are Red Panda, Golden Snub-nosed Monkey, Mainland Leopard Cat, and a very cartoonish Asian Black Bear.
Marc Bozon’s Big Cat Year continues with Bolivia: he saw a total of 36 mammal species including great cats like Puma, Ocelot, and Jaguar.
Coke Smith’s report from a winter trip to Argentina features stunning photos and cool mammals like Crab-eating Fox, Large Hairy Armadillo and Southern Right Whale.
This trip report of 5 weeks in Brazil by Jane Kempler includes an amazing 75 mammals (38 primates!) with species like Maned Wolf, Southern Tamandua, Amazon River Dolphin and Giant Tree Rat. The photos are also incredible!
And the last trip report was Oliwier Myka’s from Ethiopia – African Golden Wolf, Crested Porcupine and Aardwolf are just a few highlights, as well as lovely photos yet again.
As if the end of summer wasn’t sad enough, the September episode of the Mammalwatching Podcast is here… Just kidding, it actually sounds like a very interesting conversation with Stratton Hatfield and Koen Betjes, two conservation researchers in Africa. Apparently they tell stories “guaranteed to send any mammalwatcher weak at the knees”, and anything guaranteed to make mammalwatchers weak anywhere is good in my books.
And finally, a couple of mammalwatchers would like some travel tips. Max Taylor is wondering if Southern Ecuador is exciting enough birds and mammals-wise to bypass areas closer to Quito entirely, and Steve Babbs is looking for the best places to see Gerenuk and Fringe-eared Oryx in Mkomazi, Tanzania.
