The Weekly Recap

Hello and welcome back to the weekly recap!

The first thing to report this week is that the Thermal Master DV2 camera is back in stock worldwide! You can use the discount code MAMMALCAM10 on their website or on Amazon to get 10% off as well, making it just $449 with free shipping. The post also includes an updated review of the camera from my dad who’s been using it while in China.

Speaking of which, the first trip report this week was from this trip — specifically from his 10 days in the Yunnan Province where he saw some great species like Blanford’s Fruit Bat, Shortridge’s Langur and Skywalker Gibbons!

He’s also shared a report from Qinghai, where he got Chinese Flying Squirrel, Chinese Mountain Cat and even Snow Leopards. And finally, he posted about the day he spent in Guangxi with Great Himalayan Roundleaf Bats, Northern Pygmy Slow Loris and White-headed Langurs (which look a bit like Tintin).

The next was Avijit Sarkhel’s trip to India with plenty of Tigers, Sloth Bears, Pallas’ Cats and great views of a Jungle Cat.

Royle Safaris have shared a report from the trips they ran to Gabon last summer centred around the Mandrills. They saw 41 mammal species over the two trips, with some cool highlights like Western Gorillas, Western Palm Squirrel and African Forest Elephants.

Next up was Mark How’s trip report from France with 12 mammals and highlights like a Bank Vole, Coypu, and even some Siberian Chipmunks.

The 3 week tour of Ladakh led by Phunchok Tsering saw a total of 25 species, with even more Snow Leopards and Pallas’ Cats as well as Brown Bears and Tibetan Sand Foxes.

Wouter Piers has shared his first ever trip report, from Nepal! It’s full of great photos and species like Red Panda, Greater One-horned Rhino, Sloth Bear and a Grey-headed Giant Flying Squirrel.

Jan Ebr’s brief report on Cape Verde features Green Monkeys, Black Rats and some Short-finned Pilot Whales.

If you’d like to join a trip of your own, Nature Travel Africa are running a rare and nocturnal South African mammal safari next April. Join them if you’d like to see species like Aardwolf, Aardvark, Honey Badger and Pangolin!

Sebastian Kennerknecht and his partner Rachel  are launching a project called Chasing Cats: their aim is to create the first ever photo catalog of all wild cat species! They’ll be documenting the journey through YouTube as well as on their website so definitely follow along — it sounds like it’ll be quite an adventure.

Finally, Max Taylor will be travelling to South East Alaska next month and is looking for some recommendations for land-based wildlife watching tours based in Juneau, Sitka or surrounding areas for species like Beaver, Porcupine and Flying Squirrels.
